Distress Marker Backgrounds + Giveaway Week Day 2

¡Hola amigos! It’s Tuesday, and I wanted to play with my Distress Markers today. I wanted to try something that I couldn’t do with another form of Distress Ink, so this is what I tried out. I just used Worn Lipstick, Barn Door, Fired Brick and Aged Mahogany markers to color in the Classic Design Background by Hero Arts.

Because of the awesome extra working time that distress inks have, you can take your time coloring in the stamp. I was actually in the middle of a conversation with my bf, so this coloring took me about a half an hour and it was fine. I saw a video where Tim said you could even leave this out overnight and then still be able to stamp with it then next day (after re-hydrating it with hot breath or a light mist of water). I’m all for not having to rush!

When I was done coloring, I spritzed the stamp with a strong mixture of Perfect Pearls and water in my mister and stamped it on my very favorite watercolor paper (you have to try this stuff out – the quality is amazing!). Then I spritzed it again and stamped it again on another piece of watercolor paper. This card is made with the SECOND image from the coloring. That’s right, two images for the price of one! Crazy and awesome. I’m going to be doing a lot of coloring like this with these fab markers.

The background is so lovely in real life. It’s so shiny and elegant! I also got to use some of my current favorite ribbon (Teal Twill from May Arts) and my current favorite stamp set (Year Round Sentiments by Hero Arts) to finish this one off. This look is perfect for any special occasion.

{Full supply list towards the end of this post!}

This next one is actually the first card I made to share with you today, but I needed to warm you up first because… it’s a Christmas card. Yeah, in May. I just felt like it, and this background is perfect for the holiday season when you bring in the right color scheme. ;)

So this is how vibrant the first stamping is. Isn’t it lovely? The sentiment is from one of my very favorite holiday stamp sets, Very Merry Christmas by Hero Arts. Trust me, the Christmas theme will make more sense to you when you see the giveaway for today. :)

Giveaway Week – Day 2!

Now for today’s giveaway. Don’t forget to leave a comment on yesterday’s post to enter to win yesterday’s prize! In case you missed the rules yesterday, here’s a little refresher on the rules for entering:

  • To enter, leave a comment on today’s post in order to win today’s prize.
  • Only one comment per person on each post, please.
  • All giveaways this week are open internationally (exceptions will be noted on that post).
  • Comments will close at 11:59 pm CDT on Sunday, May 27th.
  • Winners will be posted on Tuesday, May 29th here on my blog.
  • Good luck!

Today’s prize back is a lovely selection of fall and winter product. I know, it’s a little odd to be giving away fall and winter items in May, but maybe you like to get a jump start on things? Plus, if you’re a scrapper, I know that you always have more fall and holiday photos to scrap. Ha! These items are really all great, and I hope you can get a lot of use out of them! The Winter Bunny stamp from Lawn Fawn is too adorable to resist! I love that one.

To enter to win the giveaway for today, leave a comment below. If you would like to, share what your favorite thing about fall or winter is. I know my friends down in the Southern hemisphere are approaching winter as I type this! Some of us northerners could use a bit of cold air right now. ;)

Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope you liked my little experiment with Distress Markers and will get out a background stamp so you can try it yourself soon. I’m addicted! And don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll be seeing some Distress Marker action in video form soon. Hope your week is off to a great start!

Love,
Britta

  7. Renita Y

Fall is my favorite season! So much so that I got married in October among the beautiful fall leaves and colors. In my mind, it’s the perfect season for cuddling, warm sweaters, colors, fall sunshine, and camp outs.

  8. Angie Hall

I love the beautiful colors of the leaves in the Fall. We live in north Georgia so we get to experience all 4 seasons. Thanks for all the info on the Distress markers. Both cards are lovely.Looking forward to the video. Thanks for your generosity with these great giveaways.

  9. These cards are GORGEOUS! I can’t believe you were able to make two cards without re-inking the stamp! That’s so awesome!

I used to love fall, but dislike winter, but since I live in Florida now, winter won’t be so bad. :) Fall is the best because I love the cool (but not too cold) weather, and my birthday and anniversary are in the fall!

  10. RedGem

What beautiful cards you have created… I love the vellum stamped sentiment. I love how you pierced it and added the thread. I just got my distress markers and now some inspiration. Tks for sharing.

  11. I love fall! I spent last fall further north than usual (I’m from Houston, but I was in school up in Dallas) and I loved all the colors and stuff.

  12. Serena

    Serena

  13. Bukky

Fall is my favorite season! That gorgeous in between time of summer and winter…I love the colors, the air, the smells. As a kid I loved fall because it meant back to school and as a grad student and future professor I love it because it still means back to school!

  14. Kathy Mc

Your coloring is gorgeous. Never been a fan of using markers to color stamps because I’ve never gotten good results. Now you’ve encouraged me to try it again on watercolor paper. Both cards turned out super. Favorite season is Fall due to the fresh crisp air, gorgeous colors and warm feeling of a light fleece jacket. Would love to win this fabulous givewaway to get a jumpstart on Christmas cards ~ thanks, Britta!

  15. Sara

I´m from Sweden so we have a verry long winter her but I like the fall better then the winter. I love to be outside with my dog and take long walks with her. But if it were up to her she would say that the winter is better she just love the snow. Thanks Sara :)

  16. Love this idea of coloring a backgroud with the markers. It turned out so beautiful. My favorite part about fall is when the weather gets cooler…usually by September I’m tired of hot weather and ready for fall! =)

  17. Oh darn … now I need to get those distress markers – LOVE what you did with them :)
I love going out in fall to collect chestnuts, and throwing snow balls for my dog to chase when it’s snowing (he still doesn’t understand where they go :))
Thanks for the chance to win!

  18. My favorite things about winter are: snow, skiing, skating and scarves! All starting with an S! Did not do that on purpose! Ha! ;-) xx

  24. NANCY L.

I love the Fall and our weather change here in Florida!

  25. Maria Fernanda McClure

    Beautiful cards!!!
My favorite things about fall are the crisp air and the crunch of leaves. I love watching the leaves change color and have a favorite tree that puts on a fantastic show! …and although it’s not quite fall when this happens, as a child my very favorite time of year was the fall because we started a new year of school, full of new opportunities and friendships (growing up in the transient DC area, new school year means new classmates almost every year!)
Thanks for the inspiration and a chance to win!

  26. Carmen

Great card and I love fall because it gets a bit cooler in southern california which is a change for the hot summer weather.

  27. Heather

My favorite season is Fall because the weather here in Texas is wonderful. There are weeks where it’s sunny and cool and the air is fresh. Omg now I can’t wait for fall.

  28. Maureen Chandler

What a pretty card – thanks for sharing your technique!

  29. Jane Tipton

Another great card. You’re right, it can be used for all kinds of occasions.

  30. Carolyn from Downunder

Noooo…Britta. I was trying hard to resist the distress markers, but after this, and a class I did yesterday, hmmm, may just succumb :D
In Australia, we are coming to the end of Autumn (fall) – I love the colours of the leaves. Just beautiful!

  31. Marissa McConnell

I love my new T!m markers too! :)
I really like sitting outside by the fire before it gets too cold :)

  32. Wow! I love your experiment! But, a half an hour? It’s amazing that those markers hold the ink so much time! The final result is very elegant and beautiful, and it’s better for sure in real person!
I love every season, each one has unique things to love it and to love the others haha. I love wearing coats, boots and scarfs on Winter, I love the cool wind and the snow! :) My favorite from Fall are the colors and the falling leaves flying with the wind, so beautiful!

  33. Karen G (Cardcrazed)

My favourite thing about fall or winter: there are only 4 good things about fall and winter to begin with, so I’ll list all 4 of them, in order of timing: NFL Football, curling, my youngest child’s birthday, and Christmas.

  34. Janet Mack

I love these markers. The more I read about them the more I want them. I live in S. Florida and I am happy to be in warm weather all the time. I do like football season though.

  35. Angie Ha

I love the colors of the fall. I love the winter snow from inside my warm house (I could do without the shoveling ;))

  36. Brenda

The changing colours, the bounty of harvest, new crisp apples, cozy times…..
    Thanks for the chance.

  37. Natalie Winterstein

Britta, as usual your cards are STUNNING! Now I am itching to dig through my stamps for a good background and color them with my distress markers! Lovely.

My favorite thing about fall/winter is football! Love my Nebraska Cornhuskers and we are officially counting down – 100 days to football season! hee!

  38. Susan DR

Beautiful cards! I’ve been wondering what to do with the distress markers, and this looks like a must try technique. Thanks for the inspiration. As for fall or winter products – I am a scrapper and have soooo many years of photos to do that I am always off season!

  39. Lisa Geraty

My favorite part of Fall & Winter are the holidays. Halloween, Thanksgiving Day, and then Christmas is here before we know it. I love all of our family traditions and visiting family this time of year brings.

  40. Britta this is gorgeous!! I want to get those Distress Markers more and more very day! I can hardly believe you can take so long coloring and still stamp.. what a great selling point! I always try to rush through it ya know?! Well I for one am thrilled that you warmed us up to a Christmas card ;) That’s my fave thing about fall and winter – cool air, shopping for my little one and getting ready for Santa :) Thanks for another great giveaway!

  41. Barb Ghigliotty

    Hi Britta,
I love how you used the distress markers for this card! My favorite part of fall/winter is taking long walks, since the weather is cooler…it’s much more relaxing! Thanks so much for your inspiration!!!

  42. Great card and love your techniques and your thought process. Great giveaway thanks for the chance.
What I love about fall, the color of the leaves and the smell of spiced foods. Winter, I love the look of snow (if I dont have to drive in it) and the quietness it brings. Time to cuttle with a good bood or play in the craft room.

  43. Carole Toppen

Britta, what beautiful cards. I love the colors you chose. My favorite thing of the Fall and Winter seasons has got to be the cool crisp mornings of Fall. After the warm days of summer, it is so refreshing. Plus you can’t beat the beautiful colors of the leaves.

  44. Goat Girl

Wow what a beautiful card! I always love how creative you are…thanks for sharing your talents!

  45. Beverley Leeson

WOW! Britta these cards are Beautiful. I LOVE Hero Arts Background stamps and now with The Distress Markers it Opens up a whole load of different ways to make them look. Many Thanks……..

  46. Beverley Leeson

Me again. I forgot to leave a comment about my favouritr Season which is Fall. I love the Nice Days and Crisp cool nights and all the beauty Mother Nature shows us in this Season………

  47. Oh, so I know you know what Wisconsin winters are like and my most favorite part (even if it is an ever so fleeting moment) is to see the sparkle and shine of a new fallen snow that hasn’t been touched by anything but the wind or sunshine. So beautiful! And your cards are lovely too. I didn’t know that you could leave the stamp and have the colors still work after rehydrating, that is a nice tip.

  48. Wow! Those markers are amazing! I could hardly believe it when you said that first card was from the SECOND stamping. These are both wonderful cards.

  49. I love the two cards.. especially the second one.. the colors are so vibrant and fresh.. Just perfect for the festive season.. Thanks for the amazing giveaway.. !!

  50. Anne V

I have some of those markers, and yes, they are wonderful! As for the question of the day-share what your favorite thing about fall or winter is-I would say the weather is my favorite…I hate being hot and sticky during the summer…Winter is so much better,…if cold, you can always add another layer if necessary…but if hot,you can only remove so many layers before the neighbors call the authorities…LOL!

  51. Good thing about fall is the short period of time in Phoenix when the weather is perfect. I like the end result of coloring with the Distress Ink markers. Question on them – are they refillable?

  52. Sandi

Snow & Icicles are my favorite thing about winter, pulling on the skates and sled are two perfect ways to enjoy them too.
I’m liking the fact you can get 2 imprints out of this technique they both turned out so amazing.

  53. My favourite thing about winter are frosts and clear sunny days as we are getting now – that’s right – I am from the Antipodes :-)

    Blessings
    Maxine

  54. I love the warm cozy feeling of winter !

  55. Revital

Hi , i love the winter lawnfawn stamp….
    nice cards!
thanks for the oppertunity to win.
    Revital

  56. Cathy

I adore Christmas, but my favorite thing about that time of year is the great colors of the changing leaves. thanks for the chance to win. :)

  57. Terri (blindstamper)

SNOW! I love it! Nothing makes the depressing, everything-looks-dead winter better than covering it all up with snow. :)

  58. Melissa M

It’s never too early to start on xmas cards!! Once the holiday season starts, there’s always a last minute rush to get cards made in time. Love your background, haven’t got any Distress Markers yet, but saving up for them. Winter officially starts next week down here in Oz, but it might snow this weekend. There’s something refreshing about the crisp morning air & grass crunching underfoot after a heavy frost, but nothing better than coming inside to sit by the fire!

  59. Regina

One of my favorite things about winter is the Winter Festival we have here in Brazil.
I loved your cards! Thanks for the giveaway!

  60. Victoria h

We’ve just got sunshine- hooray! It has to be Christmas- everyone is cheerful and happy.

  61. kaybee

I love the PERFECT weather in the fall! Thanks for the giveaway :)

  62. SuZeQ

Spring is my favorite season. Fall and Winter are my least favorite seasons … but, since you want to know what my favorite part of Fall and Winter are, I must tell you this: Living in the big “D” is much easier than living in the snow capital of the world – no need for boots, heavy coats and gloves. That’s the best part.

  63. Buncobuddy

Right now in Florida, it feels like summer instead of spring. I love the fall because cooler air is coming south and I can go outside and feel “comfortable.” (I’m not complaining)!

  64. Debbie Alvarado

My favorite thing about fall and winter would probably have to be the reason to put on fuzzy socks and snuggle under a blanket. Although, we don’t get a chance to do that very often being that where I live you could go to the beach in the middle of December. I would favor snow but since I’ve never experienced it for myself because I live in South Floida that wouldn’t be an accurate opinion. Either way, the cold is fun!

  65. LaRina

Warching you grow as an artist has been nothing short of amazing! I love your positive posts! Thank you for everything you do and the spirit you have to give of yourself!!!!

  66. Wow Britt!!! Those are some Awesome cards esp. the Christmas one. Those distress markers look fun for sure.

  67. Lovely card. TFS :)

  68. Marla H.

Beautiful card. I need to get some more of those distress markers.!! Love how you created such an amazing background. What a fun giveaway with lots of amazing goodies!!!

  69. Carole RB

Fabulous card and I love this technique

  70. anna

I love winter. My favorite things: big coats, Dr Marten’s boots.. and of course.. muddy puddles~!

  71. Lucy

I love the watercolor effect you achieved — and the colors are to die for!!! The ribbon on the XOXO card is amazing. I really like the color and the woven surface.

Fall and winter are 2 of my 3 favorite seasons. Summer is my least favorite since I don’t like heat and humidity and too much sun. I can count on the other 3 seasons to be cooler, both the beginning and end of the growing seasons, the changing colors in the Fall and the visible, lovely, bare structural elements of nature in the winter…. Not to mention the snow for snowshoeing. But my favorite is rain whatever the season. I know, I’m odd. ;-)

  72. Great cards! I love the changing leaves in the fall and the snow in the winter (although, I don’t like driving in it!).

    Tracy

  73. Mary-Anne V.

I love your card…so pretty. I love the colours of the leaves during the Autumn season. Thanks.

  74. Jennifer S.

My favorite thing about fall and winter is all the family get togethers. I tis so good to be surrounded by good company enjoying good food and good talk. Nothing better than that!

  75. Kathy Waxler

Oooooh. I might have to buy some background stamps to try this out. I love that cute winter bunny stamp, too. My favorite thing about winter is looking out the window and watching it snow when it comes down like the inside of a snowglobe. Thanks for the opportunity to win and get started on Christmas early!

  76. Heli

Beautiful cards, My favorite thing about winter, the end of it. =)

  77. Jeannie L

Lovely card. I just got myself the distress markers and can’t wait to use them.

I love Fall and the fall colors around. I also love winter. Although it can be cumbersome traveling during winter, I love snow, love to see snow fall and snow activities.

  78. Shayla

Cute cards! I’m glad you got two backgrounds; that’s good to know.

My favorite thing about the fall is…milder temperatures after the long Louisiana summer.

  79. Tricia H

Very cool card & awesome tips for using distress markers. I’m amazed at how great that 2nd image looks! My favorite thing about fall is pumpkins! I love carving them, cooking them, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin pancakes. All so delicious!

  80. Marilize

I absolutely love the rainy winters we have here in Cape Town. Soup, hot chocolate, gluwein – what’s not to love? We are moving into our house next week and it has a fireplace! So roasting mallows is strongly competing to get onto me ‘favs’ list ;)

Thank you for a great prize and the chance to win it.

  81. Anna Stone

What a gorgeous stamp and great technique. Beautiful card as always Britta. I would have never done that colour combo but it looks great! It’s getting colder here in Oz, it got down to 1 degree this morning. I love cosying up indoors in winter and crafting, eating, watching movies in my pjs and having warm buuble baths.

  82. I love that you got two images from this process. The second image is so stunning, I can only imagine what the first one is like. My most special winter moments are sitting by the fire and playing board games with my son and closing the door to my scrap studio, playing Christmas music and crafting the cards I will be sending to family and friends.

  83. I didn’t even think Christmas with the first card, then of course it’s Christmas with the 2nd! Cool backgrounds. I like the stitching on the vellum strip on the 2nd and the die cut/ribbon thingy on the 1st. I need more practice “blending” the markers on a background. I tend to layer which means a nice shade of brown. Fall is my fav season. I love the colors and smell mostly. The leaves are so pretty, I feel calm in the Fall :) Thanks for the awesome giveaways this week :)

  84. I have that background stamp, must give this technique a try, love the way it looks.

  85. I love winter! But I like other seasons too.

To see what a great things you make with those distress markers makes me want to buy them too, oh boy!

  86. I can’t wait to get ahold of the Distress Markers to try. I’ve seen so many beautiful projects with them. I can’t even think of fall and winter as I’ve been dreaming of summer.

  87. I’m not a fan of winter but I love the colours of Fall!

  88. Carole RB

    Hi Britta
My favorite thing in autumn are the colors…Thanks a bunch for the opportunity to win.

  89. Winter in Dubai is gorgeous! It’s the only time of the year when we can have picnics, barbecues, outdoor parties, games etc. It’s very similiar to your summer :)

  90. Mary Rogers

Fall has always been my favorite time of year. Living in Minnesota, I get to experience the most beautiful changing of colors and the crispness that settles into the air. It is also the knowledge that these are the final days before a long, cold winter which is needed to bring remewed life once again in the spring.

  91. Holly

Am from the southern hemisphere and have just been able to pull out all my cosy scarves! They look great AND keep you warm :)

  92. Debra HH

    What a beautiful background!

My favorite thing about Fall/Winter is the cooler weather and the few occasions when it snows.

  93. Mayumi O

Wow! This is such a beautiful card, I love your coloring!
I love fall and winter because I don’t like sweaty hot weather. LOL
Christmas is the most favorite season of a year for me!

  94. Goat Girl

My favorite thing about Fall and Winter is cooking things like soups, stews and chili! It’s not weird making an Xmas card in May, I’m thinking about starting my Xmas cards in June!

  95. Mary Tilman

Two gorgeous cards. Distress markers are on my wish list. Fall is my favorite season–love the colors, the cool air, rainy days, wind blowing. Winters here are short and uneventful, mostly, so no snow to look forward to.

  96. Nadege

I am definitely not a winter nor fall person. Cold, rain, sad trees and layers of clothes aren’t my favorites. I am a girl of the sun but I appreciate the time between summer and fall when the trees are still full and bright, the sky is gold and pink and the temperature are still quite warm. You know summer is over but sad days aren’t here yet.
Thanks for this great prize and the card is gorgeous. I love this stamp, I have it and it can be used in so many themes.

  97. Cheryl

Gorgeous background! I love fall for the changing leaves and I love winter for the hopes of enough snow for a snow day! :)

  98. Meghan

My favourite thing about Fall/Winter is that they eventually give way to Spring/Summer! I”m loving this video series. Thank you!

  99. Vickie White

Fall is my favorite season! I love all the colors and the cooler temperature. Fall colors give lots of inspiration for cards.

  100. Hila

    Such a beautiful background!
My favourite thing about Fall/Winter is the rain :-)
    Hila

  101. oh my goodness! Love this. I can’t wait to try it at home.

  102. SuZeQ

You have no idea how much I’d love to win. None whatsoever!

  103. Krista D

It’d be AWESOME if I could win this!!

  104. Carmen

Well, here in Southern California there is not much of a winter, but I guess going to the mountains to see an inch of snow it is amusing
