Birthday Fun and a Giveaway!

I’m 23 today. I wanted to celebrate a little with you. :)

Here’s my cake. It’s funfetti with vanilla frosting, but I did something special:

I waited for the cake to cool, drew quadrants on with a butter knife and then used a mini rubber scraper to apply the 4 different colors. (I simply divided the frosting into four little bowls and mixed in three drops of the food coloring into each.) I did one color at a time and added the sprinkles in the coordinating colors as I went to deter any cross-color contamination. :)

It turned out neon and happy and looks way more complicated than it was and I love it! It also kind of matches my Christmas tree. My first big Christmas tree in my own place!

It’s colorblocked and funky. The ornaments are from target (and were super cheap). And it makes me very, very happy. I’m on the search for some purple lights to drape near the bottom. I think that would balance out the top nicely. Will keep you updated on that. :)

Because I’m happy and because I think this year will be awesome, I wanted to do some giveaways. I’ve been saving things for a fun giveaway for quite a while, so what better a time than today? In fact, I have so many favorite things that I’ve broken them up into 3 prize packs. Check them out:

GIVEAWAY #1 – THE ESSENTIALS: Some of my favorite basics with a retail value of over $40.

GIVEAWAY #2 – DISTRESS FEST: Six distress ink pads and some of the best tools to play with them with a retail value of over $55.

GIVEAWAY #3 – NEW FAVORITES: Some of my favorites that I’ve fallen in love with over the past year with a retail value of over $45.

If you’re under 18, please make sure to have your parent’s permission because I will need an address to ship to you if you win. :) Also, please fill out your e-mail address below when leaving your comment so I have a way to contact you!

When Can I Enter? When will winners be announced?

I’ll close comments Sunday, December 2nd at 11:59 PM CST. Please leave your comments by then! I will draw three (different) winners using a random number generator and post the comments on my blog shortly thereafter (on Monday or early Tuesday). I’ll send e-mails out to the winners.

I actually popped in to wish you a Happy Happy Birthday! And I was going to tell you what an amazing inspiration you have been to me as a artist :) When I realised the question above asked what’s been your favourite thing discovered – I would have to say you. You introduced me to how to use distress inks, without you I wouldn’t know about Papertreyink! Even more so, you gave me Lawn Fawn!!! Lawn Fawn makes me happy. I just sit and look at them sometimes :) So, I am glad I stopped in to wish you happy birthday.. but also to let you know you have actually changed lives :) I have seen you struggle with health and personal things this year too, I just want you to know that you are not alone. I don’t talk a lot, but when I know you are having a hard time I try and send you sprinkles and hugs :) Thank you for being you, and sharing yourself with us :)

12 months ago I first discovered Britta! I randomly came across one of your Youtube videos, was inspired to buy a few stamps and inks, and have been hooked ever since. Without first seeing your gorgeous inspirational creations I would not yet have discovered the wonderful world of cardmaking. I have now enjoyed one year of making and sending cards, even if it is just to brighten someone’s day and put a smile on their face. A big thanks to you, and wishing you a fun-filled birthday and all the best in your future endeavors.

  114. Cheri C.

My favorite thing I have discovered this past year are blogs and blog hops where wonderfully creative people help me learn new techniques.

  115. Donna Phelan

  118. Anne V

My favorite thing that I discovered this year is the Tape Runner! I had no idea how easy this tool would make my life. I had seen it in its many forms and styles in videos and demos-but could not understand the advantage to them-until I tried one-OMG! How did I live without this?

  119. Anne V

I forgot to add-giveaway #3 would be my choice if I were to win!

  120. SuZeQ

I think I’d prefer the Distress Fest. What I’ve learned this year is how good I feel when I volunteer with the police department and fire department here in my city. I get such a warm feeling in my heart when I can step up and give it my all.

  121. Sue J

This year I learned several techniques new to me. One of my favorite is using heat embossing as a resist.
I would love to win any of your prizes. Happy Birthday!!!

  122. Happy Birthday, Britta. What a cool cake! My favorite thing at the moment is my Fiskars Stamp Press. I am in the midst of making 80 Christmas cards and I don’t know how I ever managed to do this before without this tool! It just makes lining the stamp up straight a stress-free process. Thanks for the chance to win one of these great packages!

  123. Happy Birthday!!!!
This year wasn’t a very crafty year for me, cause I had a little girl in August and even being pregnant took up more time then expected :). But since time was limited I did invest in ‘quality tools’ and finally got myself a corner chomper. Why did I not get that earlier!! ;)
Anyway, thanks for the chance to win and enjoy the birthday festivities!

  124. Just shared about your give away on my blog.
    Thanks again!

  125. Marla H.

Happy (belated) birthday, Britta! I’m glad to hear you are happy b/c you had shared your struggles w/us, it’s good to hear that the things you are trying are helping. What I have discovered about myself this year is that I am most happy when I am getting inky. If my fingers are stained at the end of my crafting session, then I am a happy girl. Be is spray ink or distress stain DTP, or coloring like I’m 5 again…I love it all. Coloring is truly freeing. Thanks for the giveaway. :)

  128. First off, Happy Birthday!!…and I hope you are feeling better and that things are looking up for you!!…I have had heath problems since birth and can relate to the frustrations of not feeling well and symptoms that baffle the docs!!…just keep your chin up and take life a day at a time!!

My favorite thing this year is my first granddaughter that was born in June!!…being a gramma fills my heart!!…best thing ever!!

  129. Melanie

  133. Susan DR

Happy Birthday! That is the most awesome looking cake! How fun. My 23 year old daughter would absolutely love that cake. I have discovered that there is no point in “saving” my favorite supplies. Now I use them, and when they are gone I can get more (well, really long before they are gone, but who’s watching – LOL). I really appreciate all the info you give about new products and how to use them. I don’t have any distress inks, so I think I’d be most interested in giveaway #2. Thanks and take care.

  134. Maureen Chandler

Happy Birthday and your cake looks yummy! And, your tree is beautiful! I, too, save things and have also learned to use and enjoy them. I save clothes, dishes, stamping supplies, etc. Now I use and enjoy them. I would love to win any of your wonderful giveaways! Thanks so much!

  135. kate

Sequins! I am loving using them on cards and layouts.

  136. Bette

My fave tool this year was learning to use a Grande Caliber. I had been putting off getting a cutting tool/embosser and didn’t know which one. Finally I just took a leap of faith and let it sit in the box for a long time but pulled it out this year and have been having a blast with it. :)))))) Thanks for the cool 3 prizes chance to win.

  137. Happy belated Birthday, Britta! :-) Hope you had a great day!

    Happy Birthday.
My new favorite thing that I discovered this year was nail polish! Not really one to paint my own nails or even take care of them, that was what the nail salon for me was. I than got excepted into nursing school and we are not allowed to have fake nails or even polish. SO to satisfy my need I started painting my toenails and became addicted. And so while my fingernails look rather shabby my toes look fabulous :)

  141. Linda Baker
