Washi + Transparency LOVE

When I saw this adorable stamp designed by Kristina Werner for Simon Says Stamp’s special holiday kit, I knew I needed to try something… Something extra sparkley.

And from this sparkle of an idea came this happy, glittery dude. The trick to filling up the beard with gems was to color it first with a T2 (grey) copic and then place the mixed gems over the top of it. This way, any gaps aren’t very obvious. I also decked him out with some Diamond Stickles on his hat. I couldn’t resist!

To go along with his festiveness, I made a card background to match. I sprayed Simon Says Watercolor Paper with Dylusions Ink Sprays in Fresh Lime and Cut Grass plus some Perfect Pearls Mist. A little dabbing with a paper towel and then a few more sprays of the lime, and I had the perfect bright, shiny base for my happy gnome. These mists are seriously SO easy to use. Someday I’ll get around to sharing more all about them. I’m in love!

I thought the coolness was done with this card, but then inspiration struck when searching for a card base. The red of this Red Washi Tape Paper is perfect to coordinate with the gnome, and by adhering it onto an Acetate Notecard from Hero Arts (just peel and stick!), you can maintain the awesome properties of the washi all the way through the card. THIS IS AWESOME! So awesome, in fact, that I’m ordering an entire extra set of the washi tape paper and more notecards. This is a match made in heaven!

I also want to share a little exciting thing that’s happening tomorrow. My elves are working hard behind the scenes here in my studio to bring you a really fun + usable holiday shopping guide for you to use. I’ll be posting it tomorrow at 5 pm CST, and I can’t wait to see what you think!

Off to go back to work… I mean, to oversee the elves as they prepare the fun PDF for you to see tomorrow. See you then and I hope you’re having a great week so far. I love the start of the holiday season! Thanks for stopping by today. :)

Love,
Britta

  1. I may or may not have those washi sheets. How did you get the green layer to stick to the washi? I haven’t found the right adhesive yet.

    • Just used plain ol’ foam adhesive – the kind by Best creation listed towards the ends of the supplies list. It sticks pretty well! The washi sticks like a dream to the acetate, too. :) hope that helps and thanks for stopping by!
