Project Life Essentials + Weeks 1, 2, 3 & 24

Hey there! I’ve been delving in to Project Life a lot over this past week, and I’m excited. It makes me happy to be documenting this year. Since I was waiting for the Midnight Edition to come out, I’ve been keeping little pieces and bits to include in the project but have a bit to catch up on. Therefore, I’m starting by doing a couple weeks at a time and then the most recent week. So here’s my title page, weeks one, two, three and twenty-four.

Between playing recently plus my experiences trying to finish up my study abroad album, I have a pretty good idea of what I like and will use every time I sit down to make a spread. Check out the end of this post for my list of Project Life Essentials!

I used two cards (the veneer + letterpressed stars) from the previous KP Project Kit (get the most recent one here – it’s even better!), a 4 by 6 card from the PL Midnight Edition and “twenty thirteen” in my very favorite KP white letter stickers colored with BG07 to create an ombre effect (one layer of ink over the letter, then more ink concentrated towards the bottom of each letter).

Week One

Here, I used more cards from the Midnight Edition, KP Eleanor alpha for the “currently”, Inspire Embroidery Stencil to stitch out “week” (I sketched out “one,” pierced the holes and then erased the pencil before sewing), used the KP Let’s Go stamp set + gold sequins in one of the pockets (sealed with washi tape + tiny attacher staples). I can’t wait to make more of these shaker pockets! Next time, I’ll get out my sewing machine to close up the pocket. I was feeling lazy. ;)

Week Two

On this layout: KP white label stickers (the first run was matte but a little bit shiny, so I used StazOn to get a good impression; future runs will be perfect for journaling and inking), “Eat, Drink and Be Merry” from the KP Bon Appetit stamp set, “week two” is the Quinn’s ABC’s stamps + die set + Copic BG000 marker, flair is from the KP Project Kit and of course I used my favorite Sharpie Pen for journaling.

Week Three

Cards from Midnight Edition, “week three” stamped in Quinn’s ABCs and colored in with Frosted Lace stickles, “you & me” is from KP Instalove stamped in StazOn, “this is real life” and the five stars on the journaling card are both from the KP Happiness Is stamp set.

Week Twenty-Four

Here, I’ve used a big card from the Midnight edition, made my own banners out of the 3 by 4 grid cards, and used more Quinn’s ABCs and now the 123s (no dies for this set, but I don’t mind hand cutting two numbers). “Yum” from Bon Appetit; “Today was a good day” from Come Sail Away. I had a lot of pictures for this week, so I kept it simple. I definitely want to get better at adding in memorabilia – still working on that!

Here’s my quick little guide for everything I love to have near me when working on Project Life. I may evolve as a scrapbooker over time, but the basic ideas will always remain the same. :) Enjoy!

I have a few things in my cart right now that I’m excited to play with on my project life like Slick Writers, some more flair and a couple new stamp sets, but I’m already so in love with this process. Thanks for letting me share it with you! What are your PL must-haves? See you again soon with more crafty fun!

P.S. Leia couldn’t resist getting in on the PL action, either.

  1. Great idea for when you’re playing catch-up on PL – doing, for example, weeks 1 & 2 and the current week. I love that. I have so much to catch up on with my PL album. Your album is looking great, Britta!

My must-have is my photo printer – I like that I can print and place instead of trying to figure out what I will use and then have to wait for my photos.

I am being much more successful with PL in documenting a month at a time. Committing to it each week was too intense for me. I still get to tell the stories but have more flexibility in my layouts and sequencing.

I have been waiting for the Midnight Edition, too, and see that Michaels is carrying it now. I am also enjoying the Studio Calico monthly kits. I don’t look at the sneak peeks so I am surprised when my happy mail arrives.

I haven’t done PL yet, I think I’m too overwhelmed with my backlog of photos to scrap still, to try to add a big project like PL! But I do love the idea of documenting normal days too, not just special days like birthdays. Your album is looking amazing, and I can’t wait to see more of it. Also, I cannot believe that Slick Writers are something new in your cart that you are going to play with. SAY WHA’?!?!?!?!?!?! I discovered Slick Writers years ago, and my life has never been the same. I carry one in my purse, I keep one attached to my calendar, and I have a ton in my scrapping studio. It’s one of my must have tools for life, not even for crafting! I think you’ll be addicted too! Have fun playing, can’t wait to see what you share with us next! XXOO from CO.
