Printing Instructions

I’ve set up the documents so that they can be printed easily with no fuss. Below are the instructions to print out your own inserts. It’s best to try out a test print or two before printing a whole bunch!

10-07-13-Filofax-Printing-Step1

1. Open the file you wish to print. (I use Apple Preview here, but Adobe or other default reader programs work fine as well.)

10-07-13-Filofax-Printing-Step2

2. Select “file” and “print” from the program menu. In the print dialog, make these changes:
– change the number of copies to your desired number of prints (for dated pages, this number is probably 1, for undated pages this number is probably greater than 1)
– select the page range “from” and enter “1” to “1” (or all odd numbers if you’re printing a dated set of pages)
– select “scale” and enter in “100%” *this is very important so that it fits properly in your planner *

10-07-13-Filofax-Printing-Step3

3. Press “print” and let the printer do its work, then place the print pages back into your printer paper tray so that when you print again, the print goes onto the back of your spread.
Note: it may take you a couple of tries to get the positioning right according to your printer. In general, for printers with paper trays on the bottom, place the paper in exactly how it came out of the printer (don’t rotate it, flip it or anything!). For printers with a paper tray on the top, flip the paper over and rotate it 180 degrees from how it came out of the printer.
Note for those printing dated pages: Now is the time to make sure your pages will go into the printer starting with the first page of the PDF document and not the second to last! They need to be in order when you print the second set of pages on the back.

10-07-13-Filofax-Printing-Step4

4. Open the print dialog again and change the settings accordingly:
– change the number of copies to your desired number of prints (same as step 2)
– select the page range “from” and enter “2” to “2” (or all even numbers if you’re printing a dated set of pages)
– select “scale” and enter in “100%” (same as step 2)

5. Print and prepare to cut out your pages! (Need help cutting out and preparing the printables? Just watch this video tutorial for a full explanation!)

10-07-13-Filofax-Printing-Step6

6. Use a metal ruler and an exacto knife on a self-healing mat to cut out the pages using the crop marks as guides. You can use a paper trimmer, but I find that an exacto knife makes the most precise cuts.

10-07-13-Filofax-Printing-Step7

7. Punch the holes along the edge and start filling out your planner! (If you’re looking for a hole punch that punches all six holes at once, this is the one I have for the Personal and Pocket size.)

  1. Anxiously awaiting the month on two pages for 2014, please let me know when its available.
    Thanks

    • Hey Terri! That insert is the next on my list, and I promise to get to it as soon as I’m done with my CHA coverage. Those posts are taking up a lot of my time right now, but I know you’re not the only one waiting for the 2014 month pages! I will specifically post on my blog as soon as they are available. Thanks for your feedback! – Britta

  2. Stephanie

I just downloaded and printed your inserts, and it is like a breath of fresh air! I love the design, and how easy you have made it to cut and punch. Makes my life so much easier!

  3. Another person hoping for the Month on 2 Pages, but I’d like them for A5 on Letter. I’d also really love dated Week on 2 Pages for A5, and an undated Day on 1 Page for Personal and A5. And a To Do List. :D

I also appreciate that you included Pocket. So few people are doing Pocket printables, especially functional ones!

  4. Hey there.

I found you by accident while surfing Pinterest (and should be asleep!!). These are really cool I love the graph paper idea. When you print them what size paper are you printing onto? I live in the UK so most printers take A4 or A5.

    • Hey Hannah! Glad you found my site. :) The documents are designed to fit on Letter size paper (8.5″ x 11″), but I just checked the files, and you shouldn’t have any problems printing onto A4. Just make sure to keep the documents sized at 100%! And if for some reason the crop marks get cut off too much by your printer (the only one this could really happen on would be the personal size) and you aren’t able to use the printables, I would be happy to refund your purchase for the trouble. But they should work! Hope this helps. :)

  5. Gerard

    Hello,

These inserts look good. Any update on issues with printing Personal sized PDFs to A4 paper?

    • Hey Gerard!

They should print perfectly fine on size A4 paper – just make sure you keep the “scale” setting on 100%. I’ve had several customers print them on A4 without any issues (but they asked about it beforehand), and probably more that I don’t know about. :) Let me know if you have any more questions! <3 Britta

  6. tiffany

the a5 never actually worked for me. im printing directly onto a5 sized paper, i have also tried 2 different printers. when i scale to 100% a lot gets cut off from the edges. i tried scaling to different percentages and it looks sort of ok but not how its supposed to. i ended up making my own in photoshop that prints out perfect. doesnt look as good as yours but it will do =]

    • OHHHH Tiffany! In your email, I thought you were referring to the size of the design and not the size of the paper to print on. I’m sorry about that. If you print it onto letter size paper or A4 paper, it will work perfectly, but I’ve never had anyone try it (that I’m aware of) on other size papers before since a lot printers don’t usually even accept that small of size. I’m sorry about the misunderstanding. Please e-mail me and I’ll refund your purchase since it didn’t work out for you. I’m so sorry. I want to make sure you get to use the best product possible! <3 Britta

  7. Courtney cantu

Just want you to know I have followed you for YEARS! I love your style of crafting and your art is always amazing. I’m so happy I watched your latest video to find these! I have a personal on its way to me and can’t wait to use these inserts :) wondering if you will be adding week on 1 page, I love that set up! Until then- as always, LOVE THIS BRITTA!!

    • Hey Courtney. This is awesome! I’m so very happy that some of my long-time blog readers are also embracing the joy of planning (and grid paper – eek!) with the filofax world. It’s really a lot of fun. I’ll add a Week on One Page to my list – that is definitely doable. :) Thank you so much for your kind words!

  8. Lisa

    Britta…
Love your open, clean concept! Any plans for the lists and planning sections to come in US compact size???
    Thanks

  9. Sacha Downs

    Britta,
When I print my inserts the grid lines are not showing up. I do not know what I’m doing wrong! Please help!

    • Hey Sacha,

I’ll send you this in an e-mail so I’m sure that you see it, but I’ll post my answer here just in case someone is having the same issue. One of two things is likely going on. Either (1) your printer is running out of ink (try printing a solid image and see what it looks like – it could be one of the colors running out, too) or (2) you’re printing on some sort of “draft” or “ink-saving” setting, which reduces the quality of the printer (try using a different pdf program – try adobe reader for starters if you’re not already using it – and just print without adjusting any settings except to make sure you’re printing the page at 100% scale).

Give both of those things a try; it’s likely one of them is the culprit. If for some reason the grid is still not showing up, let me know and we can troubleshoot some more! And as always, if you’re not happy with your purchase, I offer a 100% 30-day money back guarantee with your purchase just in case the inserts don’t work out for you.

Thanks and please keep me updated!
      Best,
      Britta

  10. Angela DiDomenico

Love your graph designs. Am completely new to Filofax and a convert from an iPhone calendar. Do you have a week on one page option? Thanks!

  11. Dagna

Hi! I’m getting ready to buy some refills for my planner. I was just curious how it all worked after I paid.

    • I think you sent me an email and I just replied to it, but this is a great question so I wanted to answer it here as well!

      Hey there!

Once you pay, you will get an email from me automatically, powered by E-Junkie (a service that helps distribute electronic files). The email will be sent to the same email address as your paypal account. E-junkie knows you’ve paid and then gives you a special link to view the PDF of the item that expires after 5 days or five attempts (5 times clicking the link). Once you have the link open, you can save the file to your computer. Don’t worry, if you have trouble with an order I’m only an email away.

I recommend trying out buying the simple grid insert for $.50 by itself if you want to try out the whole process and you’re a little nervous about it. That way, you can see if that method works for you.

Hope this helps answer your question!
      Best,
      Britta

  12. Kimberly Kallas

Britta, I was supposed to get the A5 size dated month on 2 pages and I received the personal. I just got my first Filofax A5 and am so excited to get going on it. Any way we can exchange the personal for the A5? I love your graph paper style.

    • Hey Kim! I just responded to your email. It turns out that the file just had an extra word in it – don’t worry, it’s still the correct (A5) size. I just updated the name of the downloadable to avoid future confusion. Thanks so much and let me know if you have any other questions!

      Best,
      Britta

  13. Elaine

Hi, Loving the inserts, but wondered if you would consider doing the food diary as a day to a page? I only have a personal filofax size organiser and feel a page a day would help me keep track of the whole day.

    Thanks

  16. Lisa Keith

I love these!! But I have a Mon Journal – can you make these for spiral books?

    • Hey Lisa,

I’m pretty sure the A5 size would probably work for you. You can just ignore the punch guides on the side of each sheet and punch your own to fit into the spirals. Go ahead and give it a try with the free download one and see if it works for you! I think the sizes are pretty comparable to the Mon journal. Let me know if that works!

      Britta

  17. Linda Coombes

These look great and just what I am after but I am searching for a week to 2 pages, but vertical columns, with a same size column for Saturday and Sunday – A5. Any chance of that for 2015 or for next year 2016.

  18. Tere Azua

I printed the sample graph paper and immediately fall in love. Thank you so much, this is what I needed. Now, off to finish my purchase.
Would you consider designing a blog planner?

  19. Courtney DeBoise

    Hello Britta !
I purchased the day on one page planner and the food planner. I can not get it to fit my Webster’s Pages color splash planner. On their site it says that the paper in the planner is 3.25″x 6.75″ I have already printed the day on one page twice and I can not get it to fit. Is their anyway that you can help please?

    • Sorry for my delayed response! I’ll send you an email as well to make sure you hear back from me. :)

Since the Webster’s Pages (I’ll abbreviate it WP for short) binders are designed to accept 3.25″ by 6.75″ inserts, the closest size I have to that is Filofax Personal Size (3.75″ by 6.75″). Since the margins with the hole punches are exactly a half an inch, you could simple cut off the white border on the “inside” edge of the pages, punch your holes and be good to go for now.

Since you said you’ve had trouble fitting them in, I’m assuming you already purchased some and might’ve even found this solution by now, but I wanted to make sure to respond to you! I DO plan on adding an additional size to the American set of inserts that fits the WP planners when I come out with my next release in a couple of weeks. If you purchased the American sizes and would like to “exchange” them for the Filofax sizes to get a better fit, please email me and I would be happy to send you a download code. My email is britta.swiderski(at)gmail.com. Thanks so much!

  20. Trina Flynn

Thank you so much for offering the graph printable :)

  21. Tamara Dekkers

    Goodmorning.
Do you have inserts with the size 21×14 cm?

    • Hey Tamara! 21×14 in centimeters roughly translates to 8.27×5.51 in inches, so the American Standard sizes should work for you! If you don’t mind the sides being a little longer, you could also go with the FiloFax Sizes (A5), which is just about .25 inch too wide cut could be cut down if it didn’t suit your planner. I recommend giving the planner pages a try with the free Grid Paper download at the top of this page! You can pay with a tweet and then see if the A5 size works for you. Let me know if you have any questions! You can always send me an email, too at britta.swiderski(at)gmail.com. Hope this helps!

  22. I posted it on facebook, changed to “public” and it doesn’t work. It says “we couldn’t find a post on your feed”. I also tried tweeting, but the page says “waiting for post” and never posts.

    • Hey Valeria,

Sorry for the trouble with the widget! Some people, for whatever reason, have trouble with the tweet actually going through. I’d be happy to send you a link for the free download if you send me an e-mail at britta.swiderski@gmail.com. Sorry for the delay in response – I’ve been experiencing some major migraines over the past few months and have fallen a little behind on comments.

      All the best,
      Britta

  23. Tasha

    Hi Britta,

I was wondering is it possible to add a blank sheet to the Insert Sheets? That way, the user can use a different title for the list.

    Thanks

  24. Jenn

would these pages work in an ARC junior? I love the graph paper and have been looking for something like this forever! Thank you!

    • Hey Jenn!

My research shows that the ARC junior takes inserts of a 5.5″ x 8.5″ size, so assuming you have a way to punch holes to fit your binder, the American standard sizes would fit your ARC Junior very well!

      Best,
      Britta

  25. Edwiges Burton

This is my first time trying these new printables, and I was wondering if I need to buy special paper for the printing?

    • Hey Edwiges,

The short answer is no, you don’t need any sort of special paper to print the inserts on! In fact, I encourage starting with scrap paper to get the feel of printing before going for a large quantity at one time. Some people like to use thicker paper than plain copy paper for their inserts, but I like the thin feel of copy paper, and most copy paper is now archival-safe, so no worries about any notes yellowing too much over time (and my time, I mean decades). Hope this helps – let me know if you have any other questions!

      Best, Britta

  26. Roseanne Sabol

Hi, Britta ~ I love your planner inserts!! Are you considering a 2016 edition? I love your lay out and hope to wrap around into 2016.
    Thank you.

    • Yes, Roseanne! I will most definitely be releasing a 2016 addition along with some new inserts (and some old favorites in American sizes!) Stay tuned to the blog for more information, but I hope to have everything released on or about August 1st. :)
