Favorite Collections from CHA – Part 1

I’m back after scribbling many notes and going through endless amounts of catalogs, and I’m so excited to share about my favorite collections from the CHA show. To make my decisions easier, I’ve broken my favorite collections down into 8 categories of Basics, Travel, Spring/Happy, Girl/Vintage, Garden/Home, Summer, Love and General/Boy/Family. I’ll be sharing my favorites from the first four categories today and the latter four in my next post.

Please note that I think all of these collections are absolutely fantastic! I chose my favorites based off of trends, diversity amongst my picks and what I think you will like as well. I included runners-up for each category so that I could share other loves that I have. Please do check out all the ones you find interesting and let me know which collections are your favorites in the comments on this post!

CHA2014 Let's Polka - Lawn Fawn - Britta Swiderski

Why this is awesome: This is my favorite basics collection not only of this year but of these last five years. Lawn Fawn has a knack for choosing just the exact right colors for everyone to use, and there’s a little something for everyone on these patterns: small dots, larger dots, hand drawn hearts and stripes. The accessories to this collection are perfectly on point for all-year round happiness. The flair is happy and bright, and the dotted note cards are absolutely fabulous.

Why this is awesome: Even though this is considered a “mini” collection from Basic Grey, everything that KP and team have put together here is  great for documenting travel no matter where you are headed. The graphic patterns of this collection that aren’t directly travel-related are insanely fresh and inspiring. It’s the time of the year where you see a million and a half travel collections, and even the travel motifs in this collection feel fresh. I love it!

Why this is awesome: Cloud 9 was another new-to-me company, but I was so impressed by their Cloud 9 line that I wanted to highlight it today instead of in my new companies post. The patterned papers in the line are nice, especially Celebrate (2nd photo), but the accessories to this line are what really makes it shine. The gold-foiled specialty paper (3rd photo) and journaling cards (6th photo) fulfill my desire for everything gold, while the 2 x 2 decorative squares (bottom left, 4th picture) and wood veneer sequins (5th photo) are sure to be essentials on my crafting desk.

CHA2014 Styleboard - Maggie Holmes for Crate Paper - Britta Swiderski

Why this is awesome: Maggie Holmes has stunned me once more with her new Styleboard line. The papers are artistic and free, as is Maggie’s style, but the embellishments are where this line really shines. Gold foil, glitter and rub-ons abound in this collection, but the gold accents are used very tastefully. I’ve been shying away from rub-ons for years, but these Gold Rub-Ons have me wanting to give them a try again. The gold word labels are not only gold foil but have the letters embossed like they came out of an old fashioned Dymo machine. Any crafter of any style would be hard pressed NOT to find at least one thing to fall in love with here.
Favorite items: Patterned Paper – Melody, Pretty Palette, So Lovely – Kraft Paper with Gold Foil, Gold Rub-Ons, Gold Word Labels, Decorative Tape, Doily Embossing Folder

On Love and Inspiration

Welcome back! The one thing that took the longest to come back to me after graduation was inspiration. I was all inspired out. Something that has really helped bring the inspiration back has been browsing instagram, different kinds of blogs and pinterest.  I’ve been especially obsessed with these pieces lately. Maybe they’ll inspire you, too. :)

I think you’ll see that some of my current loves above inspired this card. Plus, I wanted to show off how awesome the giveaway goodies are for today.

07-02-13 Je T'aime Hearts and KP by Britta Swiderski-1

The heart is made up of the largest die cut heart from the Hearts a Plenty die from My Favorite Things, cut out three times. I scored all three of them down the middle and colored them ink-direct to paper with Mid-Tone Shadow Ink in Fresh Peach (the front heart) and Pale Tomato (the back two hearts that create a ton of dimension). Once I adhered the hearts together, I also colored over the front heart with a Wink of Stella Gold Glitter brush pen. The glitter from this pen is so fine, liquid and luxurious.

Since the heart has so much going on, I made sure to keep the rest of the card simple by stamping a simple banner with the je t’aime from KP’s Instalove stamp set (this set has so many good sentiments!) in Fresh Peach ink. The pretty patterned paper is from the Maggie Holmes + Crate Paper collection with a little bit of Vintage Photo edge inking.

As you know, I’ve been kind of surrounded by Kelly Purkey products lately. From working for KP herself to using KP stamps all over my project life, I’ve been seriously inspired by KP products in general lately. Simon Says just put up some brand new additions to the KP line: shaped paperclips and dies. Oh boy! My absolute must-haves? The shaped paperclips, the ampersand die, days of the week and labels set. Oh those labels! I’m going to use them all over the place.

And here’s the giveaway for today. I have an extra MFT Hearts a Plenty die (I loved it so much I ordered twice by accident – hehe) and two KP stamp sets that Simon Says has given me to give away. Thanks so much, Simon Says Stamp!

07-02-13-Summer-Celebration-Giveaway-Day-2

How it works: All you have to do each day to enter is answer the question of the day. Of course, you could be fabulous and spread the word to your facebook friends, twitter followers, etc. by sending them to my blog as well. That would be really cool of you! You can leave a comment (just one comment, please – only the first one will count) until the end of July 7th, 2013. I’ll be drawing, notifying and posting the winners sometime on Tuesday, July 9th. All winners will be randomly drawn using a number generator. International entries are welcome. If you’re under 18, please be sure to have the permission to enter from your parent/guardian(s) since you will have to give me your address so I can send you the goodies!

Here’s the question of the day:

What’s inspiring you today? A particular post on pinterest? A specific blog or youtube channel?

My answer: Of course anything gold, organizational or funky, but I’ve been especially enjoying instagram lately. Following hashtags like #projectlife or #kellypurkey or even #filofax is constantly introducing me to more creative people and ideas. I love it!

Thanks so much for stopping by today. See you again tomorrow with another weekly video tutorial. It’s going to go off with a bang!

Love,
Britta
