CHA Vegas – Favorite Bits, Pieces & Trends

Hey there! It’s spitfire round here at brittaswiderski.com. (Otherwise known as: how many of these products can Britta gush about in a half an hour of furious writing before she has to take off to go camping?) And I’m excited to share some of my favorite new designs and trends from the CHA show. Thanks so much for your sweet comments, tweets and posts about my CHA reporting! I hope to get to do this again next time, too.

Trend: Stencils!

Tim Holtz with Stampers Anonymous Stencils: in the tried-and-true tag format from Tim, these are BIG (just over 4 inches wide) and come in some really great versatile patterns. They begin shipping in August and have a hole at the top so you can keep them all on a binder ring together. Awesome! My favorites: THS002 Bubble, THS007 Burlap, THS008 Stars and THS009 Splatters. They are shown in 001-012 order in the picture below, working from top left to bottom right. {view more Tim Holtz products here}

Claudine Hellmuth with Ranger and The Crafter’s Workshop: Not only is she just an awesome, bubbly person, but her new designs are pretty cute, too. Her number one tip? Stencil onto tissue paper and then use multi matte medium to apply it onto your project. The tissue paper goes clear when you apply it with medium, and you can get the perfect stenciling every time! My favorites: Falling Foliage (pictured next to Claudine) and Chit Chat (right, above the other stencils on the table). These will be shipping very soon! {check out more Claudine Hellmuth products here}

The Crafter’s Workshop and their signature designer collections: New from Julie Fei-Fan Balzer, Dina Wakley and Ronda Palazzari is more fantastic stencil goodness. Seriously, this entire release is fantastic, but pictured are some of my favorites. Plus, their booth samples rocked my socks right off. Shipping right now! {go here for more stencil goodness from The Crafter’s Workshop}

Bits and Pieces: Stamps!

Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous: Christmas Blueprint 2 was a favorite of mine from Tim’s new release. His blueprints line has been doing very well, and this set in particular will make some fantastic Christmas cards! {preorder Christmas Blueprint 2 here}

Lawn Fawn Stamps: it’s no surprise that I love just about everything that LF comes out with (once a Fawnie, always a Fawnie), but some of the stand-outs from their stamp release this time around are Yeti, Set, Go (the yeti is so cute that I literally want to squeeze him), Milo’s ABCs, Woodgrain Backdrops and Happy New Year. Oh, and the Cole’s ABCs dies are going to be used on a daily basis in my studio. {see other Lawn Fawn here}

RSVP Basic Grey: the cling backgrounds from Basic Grey (manufactured by Hero Arts) take the cake for me in this line. CG616 Tiny Star Cling, CG617 Bursts Cling and CG618 Scallop Cling can all come home to me soon. :) {see more Basic Grey here}

CHA Vegas Favorite Bits and Pieces by Britta Swiderski-21

Persimmon Basic Grey: This collection is very nice (more on that in a second!), but the background stamps are pretty awesome, too. CG614 Vertical Arrows Cling, CG613 Simple Leaf Cling and CG615 Etched Bouquet Cling are very much to my liking.

Trend: Holiday Collections Become More Versatile

Basic Grey’s Persimmon line: This collection as a whole is very fall and halloween, but leaving out certain elements allows you to choose your own destiny with this delightfully vintage-inspired line. Many of the patterns and motifs don’t even have to be associated with fall or autumn at all, and I like this more “grown-up” take on a fall theme. {see more Basic Grey here}

I really liked these Acetate Alphas that BG had to go with each line. Very nice!

CHA Vegas Favorite Bits and Pieces by Britta Swiderski-18

Webster’s Pages New Year New You: Here is another collection that, although can be holiday and new year related, reads more spring or summer in feel. I bet this line will be a big hit in the southern hemisphere and places where winter is more tropical. Plus, that “Be Inspired” floral print in the middle on the second row has my heart.

CHA Vegas Favorite Bits and Pieces by Britta Swiderski-2

Cosmo Cricket: CC is definitely refining their image and style as a company, and I think their Simple Surfaces pad will be a huge hit with many different audiences. It’s a stacked deck of glittered, printed and vellum surfaces that can all be used as backgrounds or focal points on a layout. Definitely versatile and definitely awesome.

I have about 12 more picks to share with you, but camping is calling me away for the weekend! Will be back to share those on Monday. :)

Whew! Now I have a question for you: Next time I report on CHA, what’s your must-have for coverage? It could be instagram, daily vlogging (Check out the daily vlogs from the trip here!), wrap-up posts, tweeting… what do you want to see? Also, what’s your favorite new thing (or new couple things!) this time around? Thanks so much for stopping by today. MWAH!

Favorite New Collections – My Picks from CHA Vegas

Hello friends! Today I wanted to share my 5 favorite collections from CHA. Well, it kind of morphed into my five favorite paper-related releases from the show, but you’ll see what I mean. There were so many great lines at the show, but these five really stuck out to me. (I have some more paper-related things in the post tomorrow, too.) Sit back, grab a cup of coffee or your favorite beverage and enjoy: there are about thirty photos in this post. Ha! I promise they’re sure to bring you some inspiration and excitement.

Side note – packing is going well and we get our keys to the new place today. Woohoo! It turns out that packing a crafting space is really pretty easy when it’s already so compact. Who knew?! Glad for that.

Peace Joy Love – Lawn Fawn

This line prevailed as my favorite holiday-oriented collection at the show. The color choices totally got me – the perfect selection of a more traditional red and green with enough of a twist that it really feels fresh. That red is out of this world! The new Lawn Fawn release ships towards the end of August.

  1. Collection overview: great balance of red, green, blue, white and black + traditional holiday and year-round pattern motifs. {preorder this collection here}
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-19
  2. Favorite pattern: these hearts and stars on the “Rudolph” paper with a perfect ledger on back. If this isn’t year-round cuteness and versatility, I don’t know what is.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-21
  3. Favorite embellishment: the mixed sequins for this collection include half a dozen colors, shapes and sizes to perfectly coordinate with the collection. These will be HOT. {preorder mixed sequins} {preorder snowflake sequins}
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-20
  4. Bonus picks: Lawn Fawn’s Into the Woods line is also happy and on-trend as usual. I particularly love the B-side of the “Pine” pattern. Those staggered parallelograms in shades of green are quite zesty. {preorder the Into the Woods collection here}
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-22
  5. Bonus item: more mixed sequins that are right up my favorite-color-alley and how about that adorable flair?! {preorder into the woods flair} {preorder mixed sequins} {preorder fall leaf sequins}
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-23
  6. Bonus item: Lawn Trimmings bakers style hemp cord in metallic gold (EEEK!) and brown. I’ll take three of each, please. {preorder hot cocoa hemp cord} {preorder gold metallic hemp cord}

It’s Christmas! – Allison Kreft Designs for Webster’s Pages

Allison Kreft, the former designer for Hambly Studios before their sad departure from the crafting scene last year, made big waves with her new line debuted at CHA Winter earlier this year in collaboration with Webster’s Pages. Her two new collections deliver once more with her signature graphic style and bold pattern choices.

  1. Collection overview: this is a full-featured collection with patterned paper, overlays and tons of yummy embellishments. I heard lots of whispers of this line being perfect for the very popular December Daily project throughout the show.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-5
  2. Favorite pattern: “Dear Santa” is a juicy collection of some well-designed 3″ x 4″ cards and a perfectly trendy triangle b-side.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-6
  3. Favorite embellishment: Allison’s overlays are NOT to be missed. They hold true as a strong homage to her Hambly days and are perfect for tons of different projects. Her “Numbers” (red) overlay is simply meant for December Daily. I’m into it.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-7
  4. More embellishments: like I said before, her lines are brimming with fantastic embellishments. In this photo, I love the Mini Trim Pack with thosefab silver discs. See how Allison used them on the card on the right side of the picture? Her mini bags (very popular in her last release) are also very adorable.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-10
  5. Even more embellishments: Aqua Bubble & Gold Star paperclips. YES!
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-9
  6. Bonus item: “Rewind” patterned paper from her Recorded line. I love this color scheme, and the cassette tapes make me yearn for my childhood.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-2
  7. Also from the Recorded line: more. awesome. overlays. (Black Polaroid, White Cards, Coral Graph and Teal Arrows… all fantastic.)
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-4
  8. More from the Recorded line: those charms are absolutely irresistible. (Mini Tapedeck and Mini Camera)
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-8

Penelope – Elle’s Studio

Elle’s Studio had some of my favorite booth samples of the entire show (her DT rocks), and they totally sold me on the cute and peppy Penelope line. Penelope is the girly companion to the already-released Cameron collection.

  1. Collection overview: Sweet, peppy and girly. The motifs in this collection are fresh and scaled differently from design to design for some delicious variation.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-26
  2. Favorite paper: “Bows” because I don’t think we’ve seen enough bows yet, and I like the scale of this paper. Plus, that b-side rocks!
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-28
  3. Fantastic staple pattern: the “Happy Note” journaling cards naturally would be perfect for Project Life, but I also think they would make a great layout. I love the combination on light grey and kraft in this line!
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-29
  4. Favorite embellishment: the Penelope Bits and Pieces are fun and not too over-the-top girly.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-27
  5. Bonus item: the “Countdown” paper from the Noel line is another great choice for December Daily and shows off something that Elle’s Studio does very well: printed kraft pattern. Plus, the “Deck The Halls” pattern below is another winner with those rich greens.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-30
  6. More from the Noel collection: this printed vellum is new for Elle’s Studio, and they’ve done it very well with this “White Snowflakes” pattern. Yummy!

Cut & Paste – Amy Tangerine for American Crafts

I’ll be honest: there is very little Amy Tan can do wrong in my book. She shares my love of intense, vibrant colors and continues to come out with innovations in every release. I’m a fan.

  1. Collection overview: a trendy scrapbooker’s line for scrapbookers in a very good way. It’s a “collage-inspired vintage collection” done Amy Tangerine style: bright, happy colors and unique embellishments. What’s not to love?
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-15
  2. Favorite embellishment: the Cut Out rubber Thickers in Charcoal and Begonia. They’re so thin but still will speak loudly on a layout. The rubber material should mean that they maintain their shape when you’re placing them.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-14
  3. Another edition of a favorite: new stitching templates in a lowercase handwritten alphabet (“Right Now”) and more fantastic graphic symbols like a cross-stitched heart and a journaling card (“Hello”).
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-17
  4. New to the line-up: these sweet Adhesive Resin Bows and Stitched Vellum Pockets are great for a variety of crafters, and the patterns and colors make me happy.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-18
  5. A must-have: the Cut & Paste mini edition of Project Life is certainly not to be missed. I can’t wait to see my favorite Project Lifers incorporate this one into their pages!

Hello Again – Carta Bella

Carta Bella is a newer company in the industry; their first release was just a year ago, but it seems like they found their foothold in the marketplace with this release. This line in particular in collaboration with Kaitlin Sheaffer (the mastermind behind Ormolu) is very on-trend with many of the things I’ve been seeing and loving in the stationery industry, and I’m excited to see some of my favorite things cross over into the papercrafting world.

  1. Collection overview: crisp but soft watercolor, vintage-inspired floral prints and hand-drawn embellishments rule this collection. The color palette is nice and soft but still packs a punch.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-11
  2. Favorite paper: I’m a sucker for any floral print on a navy background. This one in particular conjures up feelings I associate with Rifle Paper Co., and that makes me insanely happy. I want to cover my walls in this “Hello Floral” pattern.
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-12
  3. Another favorite: “Journaling Cards” embodies so many things I love about this line. Plus, journaling cards. I like those right now. That pattern in the upper righthand corner is excellent!
    CHA Vegas Favorite Collections by Britta Swiderski-25

Whew! I hope you enjoyed a look into some of the lines that caught my eye at the show last week in Vegas. But wait, there’s more! (My absolute favorite saying in infomercials; remind me to tell you more about my love of them some day.) I’ll be sharing my favorite bits and pieces that I found throughout the show tomorrow. Thanks so much for stopping by today!

CHA Las Vegas – Summer Release Favorite Innovations

I’m back and ready to start more in-depth blog posts about my favorite things from the CHA Create & Connect Conference in Las Vegas last week. Today, I want to share my favorite brand new products and innovations from the show. Please note that none of the companies below have paid to be on this feature on my blog. These are my real, honest opinions about some real, honest awesome products. Without futher ado, here are some my favorite innovations:

1. Distress Glitter by Tim Holtz for Ranger

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-16

Ranger kept the lid on this new product until the first morning of the show, and when it was announced, everyone got excited. If you’ve had a chance to try the Rock Candy Distress Glitter, you know that this glitter is more like a sugar and a super-rich sparkle, which makes it desirable for crafters who want shine without too much extra glitz. Plus, the colors of the Distress Inks palette are tried, true and beloved. {order them now here}

The Distress Glitters are slated to ship in July 2013, so many places already have them for sale. Check them out at Simon Says Stamp. My must-haves to start out? Picked Raspberry, Peacock Feathers, Tumbled Glass, Stormy Sky, Seedless Preserves, Antique Linen, Black Soot and Tarnished Brass.

Seriously, I love this stuff. No crafter can ever have too much glitter. ;)

2. Clear Embossing Paste by Wendy Vecchi

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-17

I’ve been a lover of Embossing Paste for several months now, (check out this video tutorial here and I also used it in my Misty Crafty Happy class) and I got the awesome chance to talk with its creator, Wendy Vecchi for a while and Day One. She gave me a tour of the new clear paste, and man am I pumped up about it! It has texture that is perfect for stenciling and adding texture to your project, and it dries perfectly clear to show whatever design you choose to create underneath.

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-10

Here, Wendy used her Polka Dotty stencil over a painted background and stamped through it with one of her text stamps. Then, she repositioned the stencil in the same place and applied the clear embossing paste over the stamping. This created a really awesome stenciled newspaper look.

Below, Wendy sprayed the tag with Distress Stains (she puts them in mister bottles) through her Yikes… Stripes stencil and then applied the clear embossing paste on top of it. What an awesome encapsulated mist look! Clear embossing paste will be out in stores soon, and I will make sure to let you know as soon as it’s for sale! Thanks, Wendy, for showing me around your new products!

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-11

Wendy also showed us her brand new Signature Designer Archival Inks with Ranger over the Metallic Gold and Metallic Silver embossing pastes. The Archival inks dry on smooth surfaces and work beautifully with the metallic pastes. Archival Inks are shipping this month from Ranger; I’ll let you know when they’re available!

3. Stitched Journaling Cards and Stitched Leaves dies from Lawn Fawn

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-13

Lawn Fawn has quickly moved to the forefront of die design with their last few releases (my favorites – the Puffy Star Stackables and the Hearts Lawn Cuts), and their two standalone dies for this release were incredibly well-received at the show. The Stitched Journaling Cards die fits perfectly in a 4″ by 3″ space (great for Project Life or other pocket-style systems) and come with awesome borders that can be used within the tag or seperately. Who doesn’t need more hearts, banners, stars and arrows? Seriously. You can preorder the die from Simon Says Stamp here.

The Stitched Leaves dies are great for decorating for a party, creating a wreath or scrapbook pages but still are perfectly proportioned for cards and smaller papercrafts. So many ideas feel I can use these on cards, decor and my PL pages! You can preorder the Stitched Leaves dies from Simon Says Stamp here.

Another fab thing from the Lawn Fawn booth is their metallic bakers twine and new hand-selected sequins packets. More on these later this week! See more about the sequins and metallic bakers twine here:

4. Stephanie Barnard Flip-its Die Sets and the new Magnetic Platform from Sizzix

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-2

Here, Stephanie Barnard showed off her new sets of Flip-its Due sets to create awesome flipable cards. Each card can be made several ways, and there are SO many ways to move around the pieces and embellish your finished card. My favorites? The Triple Circle Flip-its and Fancy Frame Flip-its #2. These sets rock!

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-15

During Stephanie’s demo, she also showed off the new Magnetic Platform from Sizzix. It’s coming out in September, and I CAN’T WAIT. It holds everything in place and everyone with a Big Shot needs one.

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-31

5. New Punch Boards from We R Memory Keepers

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-8

The Envelope Punch Boards where a total hit at the last show, and now they’re releasing four new ones – the Gift Box, Gift Bag, Candy Box and Pillow Box. They’re shipping in October, and the Gift Bag one is a must-have! I can’t wait to get my hands on these.

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-9

6. Stamping Starter Kit from Silhouette

Silhouette is introducing a new material (and coordinating cutting mat) that allows you to cut out silhouette designs and then place them on a clear block to stamp with. It’s a rather thin material, so it’ll be interesting to see how it stamps and holds up to different types of inks. I’m excited to see where this goes!

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-1

7. 3″ Sticker Maker from Xyron

This is the big sister to my favorite Xyron X for adhering vellum. The concept is the same, but the adhesive roll is twice as wide and reduces waste of adhesive AND is recyclable when you’re finished with it. Awesome! I’m all about minimal waste when it comes to adhesive. Love! This will be shipping soon and I will be picking up three. ;)

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-19

8. Capture Attach Me Stickers from Basic Grey

Part of Basic Grey’s new Capture line shipping in August, these tabs are perfect for adding memorabilia directly into your scrapbooking or project life albums in multiple awesome colors. They’re made of plastic and use super stick adhesive, so they’re going to stay where you put them and look cute doing it. I’ll be sharing more about the Capture line later this week. Hint: it’s pretty darn cool!

07-29-13 CHA Vegas Innovations by Britta Swiderski-18

Thanks for stopping by today to see some of the best things from the Vegas show. I’ll be sharing more posts throughout the week – my favorite new parts and pieces, favorite new collections and trends spotted at the show. Stay tuned for more coverage and a more in-depth look at the talks of the show!

What is your favorite innovation you’ve seen from this season of new releases? Please share in the comments below!
