All About Scrapfest 2011

Finally, I’m here to share all about my experience at Scrapfest last weekend. I’ve been down and out all day long with a really terrible migraine (brought on by pushing myself a little too hard over the past several days :/), but I’m feeling a lot better after napping for most of the afternoon. Now it’s time to share all about this awesome event I attended for the 4th time in a row last weekend. The crafting, the people and the shopping were so much fun!

I decided to do something similar to last year and make a video talking about the experience to make this post a little less photo-heavy. Hope you enjoy it! Make sure to watch to the end of the video for a chance to enter a little giveaway. :)

By the way, if you’re not able to get these products at your local stores yet, they’re ALL available over at Simon Says Stamp now! Here’s a little linky thing so you can shop away. :)

Here are the two cards I mentioned that I made for card swap with the Hero Arts girls. I had a ton of fun playing around with some of my favorite Hero stamps. :)

I also got the chance to hang out with some really amazing people. Along with blog readers, new friends and people I’ve known for a while, I met some friends in real life that had known online for a while. It was great! Here I am with April Foster and Kelly Purkey at the Studio Calico table. I bought a TON of stuff from them ;) Nicole Harper and April’s adorable husband, Greg, were also there. I loved seeing all of them!

I also got to take class from the amazing Jennifer McGuire and Shari Carroll. They teach me so many cool tricks and tips every time I get to learn from them. I love it! Not to mention, they’re really fun to just hang out with. :)

Me with THE Tim Holtz. He’s so awesome! I also loved taking his class and learned a ton of new little tidbits. I can’t wait to pass on all of the little things I picked up this weekend onto my blog readers. :)

This is our little group after our Hero Arts dinner. We had so much fun chatting and eating that it took us 2.5 hours to finish our meal! It was wonderful, even if I was the baby there ;)

I can’t help sharing this photo, too. It’s Joe and Jake when we went to the mall on Sunday. All four of us went for a roomie shopping trip at the mall. I had SO much fun playing dress up with the guys and helping them buy clothes. It was awesome. One of my favorite things for sure. ;)

I’ve put together a little slideshow of the weekend in photos over on flickr, so if you want to watch that (with captions if you click the “show details” box in the upper right corner!), click here:

Here’s the template for the iPad 2 as promised. I used this covering paper from Vera Bradley to make mine. Enjoy!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this look into my super fun weekend at Scrapfest. Make sure to leave a comment on this post with what you would like to purchase next. You have until 11:59 central time on September 30th to leave a comment on this post to be entered to win a little package of goodies that I picked up from Scrapfest. :)

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Maybe someday I’ll be able to meet all of you in real life. That would be so awesome! I’m off to go write up some more blog posts. I’ve been holding out of you lately! ;)

Loves,
Britta

P.S. The AMAZING Jake just scored an awesome internship with isportsweb.com as their Packer correspondant. I’m so proud of him! We went out to dinner to celebrate last night. He’s a sports journalism major and basically lives and breathes sports, so this is an amazing opportunity for him. Congrats, Jake! His first article just went live here. Check it out and leave him some love if you want to. That would mean so much to me!

Wow Britta – you really had a fun weekend :) I can’t wait to see what you create with all your stash. I love your vids – they always make me smile.

So… what to buy Can I rent Tim Holtz for a day? Hmmm? If not, then stamps (Lawn Fawn = swoon) and inkpads (Distress, Distress, Distress!). Everyone has their addictions right?

Thanks for hosting a great giveaway.

  16. I’ve been seeing a lot of Amy Tangerine for American Crafts, but have yet to get my hands on any myself yet.

I really am looking forward to getting the big shot. I know every one already has it. As I have still have the old school sizzix, the red and white 50 pounder with the handle you push down. I have came up with unique ways to use embossing folders with it. But recently realized I so need to upgrade.

    • Look on ebay (if you’re lucky) and amazon (free shipping.. yay!) to price compare. Trust me, it’s the worth the $50 or so! :) If you win the lottery soon, I would spring for the Vagabond, though. I’ve had the chance to use it and it ROCKS!

  19. Kelli L

Hi Britta, Once again thank you for the great Scrapfest recap. I can’t believe that I actaully live in MN and do not attend. You might have changed my mind after seeing SC gang and the Hero Arts classes. Every time I visit your blog(or rather stalk) I seem to add more stuff to my Simon cart :). I just purchsed the SC shine so my next purchase is going to be those SC Memoir Mists. Can’t wait!

  20. Sounds like you had the best time! Makes me wish we had events like this here in the UK – or that I could afford to pop over to join with yours now and then, ha!

  24. Terri (blindstamper)

Thank you for sharing your video (and time). I’ve been kind of “bad” lately with shopping (distress stains, lawn fawn, paper smooches and new hero arts/sizzix stamps, dies and embossing folders). Shhhh… I am interested in trying the Mr. Hueys ink sprays and maybe some of the fantastic Jenni Bowlin inks…when my bank account has recovered. :)

  25. I am on the wait list for the new Tim Holtz autumn distress inks. Can’t wait until they are mine! LOL! Looks like you had a great time at Scrapfest. Only wish they had one on the East Coast!

  26. Serena

You’re adorable, I enjoyed watching your recap video. I’m interested in buying a lot more stamps from lawn fawn to build up my collection and also some more distress ink colors.

I think what I am most excited to get falls into 2 categories: Studio Calico ‘Memoir”, which I just ordered at 2 Peas – I also wanted all the Mister Huey’s (especially the plum), but those will have to wait a bit. I would also love to get my hands on some Studio Calico stamps!! Thanks for the chance to win some stuff, Britta!

  36. Melissa R.

  40. Ina c.

OH I wished I lived in the US so I could go! I would love to get my hands on som copics but can’t find places that ship the to Norway =/

  41. Lisa Geraty

I have a huge cart ready over at SSS. I’m afraid to buy b/c I always think of one more thing once I hit submit order. I’ve got lots of MFT die-namics in my cart, a couple of distress inks taht I hadn’t gotten yet, the rest of my JB dye ink refills, and the pumice stone distress stickles (Jennifer MaGuire touted that one on this latest online class & I have to check it out for myself!). I can’t wait to get all my goodies :)

  42. Looks like you had a ton of fun! Thanks so much for sharing your video and all your yummy goodies! I would love to get those Mister Huey colors you showed. I have a couple bottles of Mister Huey colors but really need to experiment and use them. I just got some Perfect Pearls Mist to try as well. I wish all these super cool events like Scrapfest were closer to where I live. I have never even gotten to go to an Archiver’s store. Perhaps I will make that my first goal. :) Thanks again for sharing!

  43. Melissa

I would LOVE either the Studio Calico Mister Hueys with matching 6×6 pads. Or the ink pads from Jenny Bowlin, especially the Brown Sugar. Gorgeous.

Looked like you had an awesome time at Scrapfest, jealous. You didn’t even have to travel far. More jealous. Love the album from Tim. Super cute.

  45. Victoria H

  46. I am really excited about getting some Hero Arts stamps (they are delish and I don’t have any) and I am also really eager to be able to use Tim Holtz’s Distress Inks (sigh, none of those either…yet). His inks are soooo versatile. Many more wants, but I’ll leave it there. Thanks so much for the chance for winning! Your video and the pictures are terrific!

  47. Holy freakin’ cow! You took your pic w Tim???? Does he know you peddle his goods effectively on your videos! And how do you know the HA people?? I’m intrigued. You are so lucky to live so close to the event!

    • Last year, I went to the same dinner with ladies from the Hero Arts Flickr group. Everyone that I know from the industry has stemmed from that dinner + working really hard. :) And yes, I know I’m sooo lucky!

  48. Thanks for sharing the fun trip with us!!! :)
Next on my to buy list is probably some Studio Calico papers! I looove to try new things and I haven’t used any of their stuff yet!

  50. Robin W.

Sounds like great fun!! I always have too many things on my list :) but I think some of the new Crafter’s Workshop templates by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer are at the top of my list!

  51. It looks like you had a great time…I’m jealous! The next thing I HAVE to buy is a stamp a ma jig. I can’t believe that I don’t have one. When it comes to wood-mounted stamps, I just kinda guess where I need to place it, and I always screw up my project by stamping crooked and have to start again. Geez…you would think that I would have bought one by now! It’s definitely at the top of my list.

  52. Deb Middleton

I have so enjoyed watching your videos. Thank you for being so prolific! :) I just bought a couple of the House Mouse stamps by Stampabilities so I would next like to buy a gray marker to use as I explore the world of coloring with markers.

    XXOO,
    Val

    • Valerie Gee, the Scrappin' V

Oh – and I forgot to mention what I am most excited to buy next…. More Tim Holtz product! I have avoided his products because I’m not a “grunge” sort of gal – but I was stoked to take his class and sit and watch him demo for a few hours. I knew that if anybody could convince me to give it a try, it would be Tim himself! Now I’m *HOOKED*! I bought a bunch of distress inks and a few stains, and I really want to get some alcohol inks too! Thanks for your videos – they’re the bomb!

      -V

  74. I’m so jealous. It looks like you had a blast! Hmmm. What do I want to but next? So much stuff. I’m loving the new sizzix dies so I might have to buy some of them. And some stamp sets from paper smooches that I’ve been eyeing up.

  75. Jot

You are too cute my friend! Looks like you had a blast at scrapfest! Next on my very long list of must haves LOL is that awesome wood grain impression plate from Papertreyink.
