ABNH 2nd Birthday Blog Hop!

Hey friends! I’m absolutely thrilled to be participating in this awesome celebration of A Blog Named Hero‘s 2nd birthday! You should be arriving here at my blog from Christine Drogt‘s wonderful blog. If you’re just starting the hop now, you can head here for the beginning.

ABNH 2nd Birthday

Here’s the card I made to celebrate this special occasion today:

04-01-14 ABNH Happy Birthday by Britta Swiderski-1

I went a CAS (clean and simple) direction with this one, using some of my newest Hero Arts goodies, the Constellation background stamp with Unicorn Pastel Mint ink. I love the soft-but-present texture the pale mint gives to the white cardstock. The Pastel Mint ink does show up a little better in real life and is the perfect light mint color.

I stamped the bold Happy Birthday sentiment from It’s Your Day stamp set in Navy Mid-Tone Ink, used Wet Cement cardstock as the base and kept the embellishments simple with Tim Holtz Mirrored Stars in a visually pleasing triangle formation. The end result is happy, celebratory, and perfectly gender neutral using this color scheme. Cards for guys are usually so difficult, aren’t they?! Haha.

Dear Santa: Christmas Quickies!

Hello friends! I’m here to share another card I made for A Blog Named Hero and their month-long Dear Santa event. Today is all about Christmas Quickies.

11-27-13 Britta Swiderski Quickie for ABNH-1

I have three things I love to do when making a quick card: mist for color, keep the stamping simple and add sparkle. Mist is a great way to add instant color, and it dries super quickly if you roll a paper towel roll over it. I used the 6 by 6 Baubles stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop + watercolor paper and sprayed Dylusions Sprays in Fresh Lime, Dirty Martini and Cut Grass over the top. Remove the stencil, roll a roll of paper towel over your paper and then you’re ready to put it on your card base!

Since the background is so awesome and vibrant (and fast!), all I did after that was stamp my sentiment from Let It Snow by Lawn Fawn with some StazOn onto some thick vellum, attach it with some Be Creative 3mm tape along the edges and then used the 5mm tape over the top + Picked Raspberry Distress Glitter to cover the adhesive.

And, of course, don’t forget the Hero Arts gemstones for a little extra sparkle. There you go, a vibrant Christmas card in about 5 minutes!

P.S. Happy Thanksgiving to all of my friends in the US and ex-pats around the world. I’m making Thanksgiving dinner for the very first time, spending my very first Turkey day in Minnesota AND it’s also my birthday. I am going to make and eat ALL THE FOOD. And of course I have a plan:

11-27-13 Life Update-2

I also just scored a third job at Sephora for the holiday season, so it looks like my makeup addiction will finally be a self-sustaining hobby. Ha! I know I’m a little crazy, but if I’m going to do retail for the holiday season, I might as well work at places I love. :)

(Nail polish organizer here on Amazon – I didn’t realize I had this much polish!)

Thanks for all of the well-wishes on twitter, facebook and instagram this last week as I’ve been doing well in my professional endeavors but battling some super nasty withdrawal from an anxiety medication. This year, I’m thankful for being able to pay my bills and for a group of family and friends that is there for me unconditionally. I love you all so much!

Dear Santa on A Blog Named Hero!

My friends! I’m still here, I promise. Something very special finally pursuaded me to get down to business and organize my office and sit down at my desk to make something. FINALLY. It’s been two months since I’ve made a card, and I’m feeling a bit rusty.

11-01-13 ABNH Christmas Card by Britta Swiderski-1

My first Christmas card of the year! It’s a nontraditional color scheme for Christmas, but I really wanted to highlight this awesome World Ornament stamp as the centerpiece of the card. I knew I had to have it because it’s a world stamp that doesn’t, for once, focus on the Americas! I love traveling and I love that this stamp shows a world view that is a little different than what we, in this half of the planet, are used to seeing.

I’m so honored to be participating in the Dear Santa event over on A Blog Named Hero this month. This is my first post for them this month; I’ll have another coming up in a couple weeks. Thanks for having me along for the fun, ABNH! Make sure to check out their awesome blog for daily editions of fun and inspiring projects related to the upcoming holiday season. Check out today’s post here.

Here’s a better look at that card. I created a nice tone-on-tone background pattern using Lawn Fawn’s Teeny Tiny Backdrops and Soft Sand Shadow Ink on kraft cardstock, then spelled out my sentiment using Lawn Fawn’s newest alphabet, Milo’s ABCs.

I tied everything together (literally… ha!) with my favorite favorite favorite twine, the Gold Sparkle Lawn Trimmings hemp wrapped around the right side of the card and added as a bow to tie on the ornament. Seriously, I need to buy three back-ups of this twine just in case I ever get a little too twine-happy. Eep!

Thanks so much for stopping by today and continuing to send me so much love via the blog, instagram, twitter and facebook. Big things have been happening in my life, and I’m excited to tell you more about them soon. I’m mostly just very excited to have broken the ice of uninspiration again. Watch out craft desk, here I come!

Love,
Britta
