ABNH 2nd Birthday Blog Hop!

Hey friends! I’m absolutely thrilled to be participating in this awesome celebration of A Blog Named Hero‘s 2nd birthday! You should be arriving here at my blog from Christine Drogt‘s wonderful blog. If you’re just starting the hop now, you can head here for the beginning.

ABNH 2nd Birthday

Here’s the card I made to celebrate this special occasion today:

04-01-14 ABNH Happy Birthday by Britta Swiderski-1

I went a CAS (clean and simple) direction with this one, using some of my newest Hero Arts goodies, the Constellation background stamp with Unicorn Pastel Mint ink. I love the soft-but-present texture the pale mint gives to the white cardstock. The Pastel Mint ink does show up a little better in real life and is the perfect light mint color.

I stamped the bold Happy Birthday sentiment from It’s Your Day stamp set in Navy Mid-Tone Ink, used Wet Cement cardstock as the base and kept the embellishments simple with Tim Holtz Mirrored Stars in a visually pleasing triangle formation. The end result is happy, celebratory, and perfectly gender neutral using this color scheme. Cards for guys are usually so difficult, aren’t they?! Haha.

Happy birthday, Mrs. Lawn Fawn!

Hello and welcome to my stop on this fabulous Happy Birthday wish to Kelly Marie – Mrs. Lawn Fawn herself! You should be arriving from Elena Roussakis’ blog. If not, click here to start at the beginning of the hop. :)

09-10-13 Kelly Marie Blog Hop

Dear Kelly Marie:

Happy birthday! I’m so honored and pleased to call you a friend and can’t begin to describe what your friendship means to me. I’m so lucky to have you and the rest of the LF crew in my life. In honor of your special day (even though I’ll get to see you at the end of next week for Scrapfest – YAY!), I made a card that’s *almost* as sweet as you are. Mwah!

09-10-13 You Are So Sweet for Kelly Marie-1

I used a couple of my very favorite Lawn Fawn things – the Quinn’s ABCs stamps and dies. You know I love those guys! I also used the Here’s the Scoop stamp set to complete the motif. The main focus of this card is my current obsession with gold colored pencil. I have this one from Prismacolor in PC950 Metallic Gold, which you can pick up in art stores. It’s a little more of an antique gold color, but it definitely fits in with my current gold obsession.

09-10-13 You Are So Sweet for Kelly Marie-3

I colored the ice cream in with other Prismacolor colored pencils and added Frosted Lace Stickles and Glossy Accents for a little extra sparkle and shine.

09-10-13 You Are So Sweet for Kelly Marie-2

I kept the background simple with just a bit of color by using Spun Sugar, Shaded Lilac and Peacock Feathers Distress Markers (LOVE that Ranger came out with the seasonal colors in marker form!) + a couple mists of water + the Tiny Ink Spots background stamp from Hero Arts all stamped onto watercolor paper. I colored once and created two backgrounds by simply misting again after stamping the first time. This is the second, more subtle stamping featured above.

P.S. Yes, this is totally the first card I’ve made in about a month and a half. WHEW! After a somewhat impromptu break, I’m back and am officially moved in to my new apartment. Woohoo! I’ve been crazy busy doing all sorts of DIY decorating and refinishing projects around the apartment, and I can’t wait to show you what I’ve done. I’m scheduling a blog post about the process of refinishing my kitchen table this Thursday Saturday morning and will be back to regular posts. Here’s a little peek at how the table turned out:

P.P.S. Leia says “hi!”
P.P.P.S. In case you missed it, I posted the first part of my moving vlog here. You can see how crazy things got ;)
