Peeks from Design Principles

Since Design Principles class starts on Thursday, I want to share some peeks of the principles we’ll be covering in the class. These projects are bonus ones to accompany the lessons, and I thought they might pique your interest.

I also wanted to show off the awesome Class Kit, which is still available for purchase. There are only a few left and they ship out in a couple days, so snatch one up while you can!

This is the badge that students can post with their creations inspired by the class. I thought this would be a good day to introduce it to you!

Now, here are some cards I’ve created to go along with the class. These demonstrate the principles we go over; there will be two strart-to-finish card videos with each lesson that show cards in a similar idea as these. (Same principle but different card designs!) This first card shows off Symmetrical Balance. You can learn more in depth about the principle of balance in lesson four. :)

I couldn’t resist using the new Interlocking Backdrops from Lawn Fawn (hot off the presses – it’s not available for sale yet but will be mid-August). I love it so much, and it’s perfect as a strip right down the center of the card. Some copics and sequins from the class kit are perfect to really make the hexagons pop. Just so you know, class members will have a chance to comment to win some Lawn Fawn stamp sets – this includes the new sets! Just one of the perks for class members. :)

By the way, Multi Matte Medium is the perfect adhesive for adhering sequins. It’s sticky enough, but it dries perfectly clear and matte  after everything sets. It’s my current favorite adhesive. Love.

This next card demonstrates the principle of Rhythm. You can learn more about this during lesson seven of the Design Principles class.

I love these wood veneer hearts from Studio Calico (misted with Boss Lady Mister Huey) in their cute stitched frames. Also, isn’t that gold washi tape AWESOME?! It comes in the class kit, and I’m in love with it.

So if you haven’t had the chance to register for your spot in Design Principles yet, now is your chance before class starts! I would love to have you there. :) If you have any questions about the class, leave them in the comments below and I will get back to you ASAP. Thank you so much for stopping by. Everything is coming together, and I can’t wait to share everything with you. <3

Love,
Britta

P.S. Thanks so much to Moxie Fab World for featuring my balloon card as one of their picks the other day. I <3 Moxie Fab world. Welcome to my new blog readers! I hope you’ll stick around and be inspired. :)

Inspiration University: Design Principles Class Information

Oh happy day! Today is the day I get to share more with you about my upcoming class. I’ve had a lot of really positive feedback from you, and I can’t wait to tell you more about it!

The Simple Explanation

Design Principles is a class that will be available for registration on my blog. The class will be an interactive, community experience and will take place in a member-only section of my website. There will be ten full lessons posted on the classroom blog on Mondays and Thursdays starting on July 26th, 2012 and running until August 30th, 2012. To get the full experience from this class, I highly reccomend taking the class live with all of the other classmates. It will be one big party!

In the class, we’ll cover the basic design principles and put them into practice with a video explanation of each principle, a make-along tag (one for each lesson so you can keep your tag booklet as reference!) and two start-to-finish card videos per lesson. I also have arranged to have several fabulous designers guest design along with me. After you work through each lesson, we can all talk the lesson through and share our creations in the gallery and comments for each post.

My goal is to share the lessons I’ve learned in my college design classes and bring them to you in a language that we all speak – papercrafting! By taking this class, you’ll grow in your understanding of good design and gain the ability to “talk design” when you see a card (or layout or advertisement or painting!) that gets your creativity flowing.

Class Benefits

  • Exclusive access to all lessons, comments and card gallery for each lesson.
  • Printable PDFs for each lesson.
  • Lifetime access to all course material.
  • Each lesson includes at least 4 videos and 3 card examples.
  • Opportunity to win giveaways from our lovely sponsors.
  • Discount codes at several of our sponsors’ stores.
  • Complimentary copy of the PDF book released after the class is over (with opportunity to have your project featured in the book).

Other Fun Things

I’ll have a kit available for purchase here on my website that contains fun embellishments, extras and exclusives to go along with the class. You’ll see me using these items throughout the class, and you’re going to *love* the look of these cute extras. This isn’t required to in order to take the class, but it will certainly be a fun addition for your class experience. This kit will go up for sale the same time as registration opens on Thursday, July 12th. There are limited quantities, so be sure to snap a kit up quickly if it strikes your fancy!

Registration Information

Step 1. Registration for Inspiration University: Design Principles will go live here in the “shop” section of my website at 11 am CDT on July 12th, 2012. You can purchase the class kit and your class seat at the same time with a paypal account (or using their credit card secure check out).

Step 2. Make an account on my website (over in the right-hand sidebar over there). This way, you can have whatever username and e-mail you’re used to using to access the class. If you don’t do this step, I’ll make an account for you and e-mail you the username and password.

Step 3. I’ll grant you the permission to view the private class section of my blog, and you can start gathering supplies and chatting over there! *Note that I’ll be travelling to Chicago for CHA on Thursday, so there may be a slight delay in this last step. Don’t worry, I’ll get to you as soon as I can!

The Price

Class seats will be available for purchase for $28. This is an incredible value for over 5 and a half weeks of fun, 40+ videos and dozens of cards to inspire you! Kits will be $18 plus shipping (full rundown of contents available on Thursday).

The Fabulous Sponsors

As mentioned above, one of the awesome perks with taking this class is access to enter giveaways and use discount codes provided by our lovely sponsors. Thanks to these lovely people and business for making this possible!
