Dear Santa: Christmas Quickies!

Hello friends! I’m here to share another card I made for A Blog Named Hero and their month-long Dear Santa event. Today is all about Christmas Quickies.

11-27-13 Britta Swiderski Quickie for ABNH-1

I have three things I love to do when making a quick card: mist for color, keep the stamping simple and add sparkle. Mist is a great way to add instant color, and it dries super quickly if you roll a paper towel roll over it. I used the 6 by 6 Baubles stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop + watercolor paper and sprayed Dylusions Sprays in Fresh Lime, Dirty Martini and Cut Grass over the top. Remove the stencil, roll a roll of paper towel over your paper and then you’re ready to put it on your card base!

Since the background is so awesome and vibrant (and fast!), all I did after that was stamp my sentiment from Let It Snow by Lawn Fawn with some StazOn onto some thick vellum, attach it with some Be Creative 3mm tape along the edges and then used the 5mm tape over the top + Picked Raspberry Distress Glitter to cover the adhesive.

And, of course, don’t forget the Hero Arts gemstones for a little extra sparkle. There you go, a vibrant Christmas card in about 5 minutes!

P.S. Happy Thanksgiving to all of my friends in the US and ex-pats around the world. I’m making Thanksgiving dinner for the very first time, spending my very first Turkey day in Minnesota AND it’s also my birthday. I am going to make and eat ALL THE FOOD. And of course I have a plan:

11-27-13 Life Update-2

I also just scored a third job at Sephora for the holiday season, so it looks like my makeup addiction will finally be a self-sustaining hobby. Ha! I know I’m a little crazy, but if I’m going to do retail for the holiday season, I might as well work at places I love. :)

(Nail polish organizer here on Amazon – I didn’t realize I had this much polish!)

Thanks for all of the well-wishes on twitter, facebook and instagram this last week as I’ve been doing well in my professional endeavors but battling some super nasty withdrawal from an anxiety medication. This year, I’m thankful for being able to pay my bills and for a group of family and friends that is there for me unconditionally. I love you all so much!

A Sneak Peek

I couldn’t leave without sharing one of my favorite cards from the course. This uses a technique I’m calling Dry Versamark + Mist. As you can see here, using Versamark without embossing powder produces this amazing watermark effect. Want to see more with this technique and more than 20 others? Check out the class. ;)

Misty Crafty Happy Preview!

Hey there! I’ve been working SO much all week getting the Misty Crafty Happy class ready for this Friday, and let me just say that it’s going to be fabulous. The more I work on it, the more excited I get about it. You’re going to love it! I made two cards to share with you using techniques from the class, and I wanted to share them with you today and Friday. This is just a little taste of the awesomeness to come in the class. :)

This card features some basic spraying techniques with my favorite mists – the Dylusions Ink Sprays. I misted the background and then used the Lawn Fawn Stackables Scalloped Circles and Circles to create a nice open area for the sentiment to sit on. I use this fantastic sentiment set throughout the class, I think you’ll find your self adoring it as much as I do by the end of the five lessons.
